Why Governance Platform as a Service – GPaaS?
Digital transformation is a new strategic imperative, and is on top of every c-level executive as it can help disrupt and capture enormous opportunities. It is no longer a question of if, but when. One of the interesting statistic based on multiple research sources is that two thirds of digital transformation projects are failing. There are many challenges such as technology gap, large scale change, digital culture adoption, apps distributed across clouds, the pace of change, security and data explosion. But the modern day governance for the digital world or we call it as “Digital Governance” must be at the core to make the digital transformation and enterprise modernization a reality.
Digital Governance can be defined as a framework that unifies and leverages transformation entities such as people, policies, processes, applications and other technology assets for delivering desired business outcomes in a consistent, compliant and cost effective manner for an organization’s digital presence. Digital Governance provides an objective way to govern any transforming entity in the enterprise and meet the business outcomes that matter to the enterprise.
Traditional Governance, Regulatory & Compliance (GRC) tools typically address governance and regulation aspects of applications mostly based on traditional system of records. The digital technologies and applications are fluid, real time, analytics driven and dynamic in nature. The applications in digital world are transforming from systems of records based to systems of engagement and experience based. This transformation is driving the need for continuous Governance and Operations platform that covers all aspects or we call application dimensions (availability, performance, cost etc…) of applications all the time besides the typical traditional regulatory and compliance aspects of application.
However, the traditional approach for introducing digital governance is just not sufficient due to the complexity from wide variety of application architecture mix from both legacy and modern worlds that need to be brought into the purview of Digital Governance. Such attempts to introduce digital governance only in a traditional on-prem way into complex environments can become a challenge in itself and often result in compromises unless it is absolutely required as per corporate compliance needs.
Delivering Digital Governance through Platform as a Service (GPaaS): With GPaaS model, enterprise will have the flexibility to bring digital governance to any application without adding additional complexity to their environments. With this approach, Enterprises can just focus on high level business and governance objectives, and let the platform automatically and efficiently handle the complexities to seamlessly ensure the objectives are delivered. Freed from thinking about the internals of applications or the underlying operating environments, developers, architects and administrators can customize the solution as per their needs and capabilities for a wide variety of application architecture. Its support for market place enables enterprises to leverage partner ecosystem to build custom insights and analytics or use readily available ones to meet their needs and reduce the time and cost of introducing digital governance. This approach also brings immediate expertise to companies that need to move their business forward, but don’t have the internal staffing available to make that happen.
